Planning a family holiday in Bali or searching for a spot where your kids will actually have fun? Let me introduce you to Sanur. I’ve spent countless weekends here, and it has this calm, easygoing charm that works perfectly for families. Beyond the beaches, Sanur has grown into a neighborhood filled with playful, creative, and exciting things for kids to enjoy. Here are my go-to, up-to-date recommendations for families and expats.

1. Watch Sunrise & Chill on Sanur’s Beaches

Sanur’s sunrise never disappoints. Along Sanur Beach, as well as Sindhu and Cemara, the early morning feels slow, bright, and incredibly family-friendly. The water stays gentle and shallow, so kids can splash around safely while you soak in the view.

Tips: Bring a beach mat, buy a coconut from a friendly vendor, or stroll along the long coastal path — mornings here feel like a reset button for the whole family.

2. Rent Bikes & Ride the Sanur Promenade

Sanur’s long, flat beachfront path is perfect for a relaxed family bike ride, and you will find plenty of rental spots offering children’s bikes, baby seats, or even tandems. Most rentals cost around IDR 20,000–30,000 per hour, making it an easy, affordable activity for all ages. It’s best to go early in the morning for cooler weather and quieter paths, or late in the afternoon when the light is perfect for photos.

3. Visit Icon Bali Mall

One of the newest highlights in Sanur is the vibrant, open-air Icon Bali Mall, and it has quickly become a go-to spot for families. Whenever I need an easy, heat-free (or rain-safe) outing, this is where I end up. The mall blends shopping, dining, and entertainment in a way that keeps both kids and adults happy.

You’ll find an IMAX cinema for family movie days, a Timezone arcade packed with games, plenty of cafes and restaurants (several with ocean views), and a mix of shops to wander through. They also host fun seasonal events like the Jaje Bali Floating Market or butterfly exhibits, so there’s usually something extra to enjoy when you drop by.

4. AeroxSpace & Indoor Active Play

Sanur isn’t just about beaches and bike rides anymore—indoor adventure spots like AeroXSpace have added a whole new layer of family fun. This place is essentially a giant air-conditioned playground, filled with trampoline zones, inflatable obstacle courses, climbing walls, mini–ninja tracks, and even zip lines.

It’s the kind of venue where kids can burn off a ton of energy while parents enjoy a breather in a comfortable, safe environment. Whether you’re escaping the midday heat or looking for a rainy-day backup plan, it’s one of the easiest ways to keep the whole family entertained.

5. Creative Fun at Kevala Ceramics & Kevala Studio

If you want a break from the sun and screens, spending a couple of hours at Kevala Ceramics Studio is a wonderful change of pace. Their pottery and hand-building workshops are relaxed, hands-on, and genuinely fun for both kids and adults.

You can shape bowls, paint your own pieces, or simply let the kids experiment while you enjoy a slower moment. It’s one of those activities that feels both calming and meaningful, perfect for creative family bonding — and you leave with a souvenir you actually made together.

6. Indoor Fun — Click ‘n Climb

On days when you want a break from sand and sun, Sanur has some great indoor options. One of the most popular is Click n Climb, a bright, colorful climbing arena designed for all ages and confidence levels.

Kids can tackle fun themed walls, race each other to the top, or just explore at their own pace in a safe, supervised space. Around town, you’ll also find smaller indoor play areas and kid-friendly corners in cafes, perfect when you need something active but sheltered.

7. Water & Beach Activities

One thing I love about Sanur is how gentle the ocean is thanks to its reef-protected shoreline. It creates a calm, shallow stretch of water that’s perfect for beginner-friendly adventures like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, or even light snorkeling in safe spots.

These activities are easy for kids to try and relaxing for parents to join in or supervise from the shore. It’s simple, safe water play that families keep coming back for.

8. Explore Sindhu Night Market & the Sanur Morning Market

If you want a taste of real local life, evenings at Sindhu Night Market are always a highlight for me. It’s a lively but family-friendly spot where you can try kid-approved bites like satay, bakso, martabak manis, fresh juices, and all sorts of sweet snacks.

If you’re up early, the Sanur Morning Market is another great stop, full of fresh produce, snacks, flowers, and everyday Balinese food culture. It’s simple, authentic, and gives kids a chance to see what mornings look like in a local neighborhood.

9. Dolphin & Turtle Experiences

Although these activities aren’t located directly in central Sanur, there are nearby spots and seasonal programs where families can learn about Bali’s marine life, especially sea turtles. Some conservation groups host educational visits where kids can see rescued turtles, understand how hatchlings are released, and learn why protecting Bali’s marine ecosystem matters.

There are also dolphin-watching trips that depart from areas close to Sanur, offering a gentle introduction to Bali’s ocean wildlife without long travel times.

10. Beach Cafes, Treats & Chill Spots

One of the things that makes Sanur so family-friendly is its calm, easygoing cafe scene. Instead of loud beach clubs, you’ll find relaxed seaside spots serving smoothie bowls, fresh juices, pastries, and really good gelato. Many cafes sit right along the beachfront, so parents can unwind with the ocean breeze while kids play in the sand just a few steps away.

11. Day Trips & Nearby Family Attractions

Another reason I love staying in Sanur with family is how easy it is to explore beyond the neighborhood. From the beachfront, you can hop on a boat to Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida for a fun island day.

If you prefer something closer, both the Bali Zoo and the Bali Bird Park are just a short drive away and offer full days of animal encounters, clean facilities, and family-friendly shows.

You can also explore cultural markets and small museums around Denpasar when you want something educational but not too far from your Sanur base.

What Makes Sanur Great for Families in 2026

Sanur is still that calm, easygoing coastal town known for seaside strolls and relaxed days, but in the past couple of years it’s added real family play options like the Icon Bali Mall, arcades, indoor adventure parks, and creative workshops that make it feel more complete as a family destination.

Yes, it’s still excellent to just roam the beach, watch sunrise, rent bikes and explore — but now there are plenty of places for kids when the heat hits or you need a break from sun and sand too.
